“NO! WHAT!? Was this posted April 1st!?” was exactly my first response to the news that Regé-Jean Page would not be reprising his role as the Duke of Hastings in future seasons of the Netflix delight, Bridgerton, but then I thought about it and changed my mind.
Season one was flawless, darling, and why try to improve on perfection? Do we really want to see Simon and Daphne without the will-they-won’t-they tension? We would hate watching an hour of them blissfully playing with their ridiculously beautiful children.
A story needs conflict to move forward and what kind of a sadist wants more conflict for their Graces? Not me baby. In the middle of an over-year-long pandie, mama needs a happy ending. Save the conflict for another Bridgerton and leave my rake reformed and our diamond of the first water a little less printine😏. We’ve done what we needed to do here.
Each book of this series is self-contained with its gaze on a different Bridgerton sibling. This allows each season a fresh set of salacious scandals and new titillating tensions. Though I would watch Rege-Jean Page watch paint dry, his story arc was incomparable and complete. Why mess with perfection?
We don’t need more, we just need a re-watch.
And, my god, he’s filming a movie with Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling! We can burn for that too.
